Bottom of My Class After 1L - Tell Me It Will Be OK

It may be shitty to hear, but perhaps a legal profession isn't for you.

You aren't interested in Biglaw, and that's perfectly okay, but what area of law are you interested in (beyond a vague geographic area)?

I don't say this expecting a rising 2L to have a five-year plan, but I rather ask it because I think it brings about general concerns. You're at a good school, but you're at the bottom of your class, which isn't good regardless of ranking. This is problematic because it essentially shows that you didn't find a single introductory course to dig your teeth into and shine in. That really isn't good, especially given the fact that all you want to do is work in a "large metropolitan city."

Reality check: who doesn't?

Regardless of private vs. public interest. If the law is something you're obviously interested in doing and especially in a major market, regardless of firm size, then you'd better take a long, hard look at yourself. There aren't any firms looking for an underperformer that doesn't know what they want to do besides being in the epicenter of a particular legal market. Figure out what you liked/think you like you might like, and work harder. That's the only way.

Also, as a genuine question: what non-biglaw positions in a major market do you think are accessible to students that are at the bottom of their class?
