”But in AMERICA we are allowed to do this!!!1”

It is interesting how people point to any bad things the United States has done ignoring that most of Europe has all of that and worse in their history. There is no evil that the United States has done or is doing that has not been done by anybody else. Hell, most of the bad stuff the United States is doing is actively being done by other nations as we speak. They just aren’t as good at it, but... does that matter?

Ultimately, it seems ridiculous to me to pinpoint a country that “would have been better if it hadn’t existed” because what is a country? The US has done everything it’s done — good and bad — because it can. Anybody else who could would be doing the same, and we can see that through history. So to me, pointing the finger at any individual country as being “the bad guy” is really just pointing at what human nature leads us to when we are in any given situation and context.

And yes, I’ve only been to Poland but I did see a lot of memorials and historical sites clearly outlining and mourning the historical events that took place there. I’m sure Germany has done the same, I just haven’t been.
