Cab driver at O'Hare tells me, "next time, just say you're going to Rosemont or something."

I am a cabbie, and in my five years of doing said job I have learned one important thing about cabbies...

The majority of cabbies are like spoiled children who bitch and moan about the dumbest most useless shit that may have inconvenienced them by you or another fare that they may have had that night. Many of them are the most pathetic, back stabbing pieces of shit I have ever met. It blows my mind when a cabbie or anyone in the service industry expects a tip. Do tips help? Yes, they help a great deal because our pay can be very inconsistent and compared to what we receive from the fare itself, 100% of the tip goes straight into our pocket. But to expect a tip is pathetic, you never know the struggles of the individuals your driving around and the way people expect a tip now simply disgusts me.

I am a rare breed of cabbie, I'm actually honest and will take you the shortest possible route I can, not only because I feel that people deserve the best possible service but to be honest with everyone, the quicker I can get you out of my car, the better. I make more from the meter starting than I do driving the same person around for a longer period of time. That's just how it works where I live. I can drive one person ten blocks for $15 with the possibility of a tip or I can get two separate calls in the same period of time for $7 each with a greater possibility of a tip from each person because it's a smaller fare and people are more willing to tip on smaller calls than a call that costs them $15-$20.

I find that people that expect tips will treat the next costumer like shit if the previous customer didn't tip. To me it's just pathetic.

Sorry about the rant but it irritates me to no end. I'm a cabbie because there is a lot of freedom with the job and the potential for cash is pretty good if your willing to put the hours in.
