California->St. Johns--Culture shocks??

I see most of your questions were answered pretty good but I want to ask a couple questions you should consider before you come, not to discourage you though.

What type of work are you doing while here? Do you have transportation arranged or will you be relying on busses? The public transit system here is poor. It exists and people make it work, but if you are using it as a method to get back and forth to work, it has potential to eat up a lot of your time unless you are lucky. Ive seen people take over an hour to get somewhere that would take less than 10 minutes direct by their own vehicle.

Do you have accommodations set up also? We have a very low vacancy rate in the city. Short term rentals (12 weeks) can also be very difficult to find. Your employment should be able to help you though.

I assume you have a job lined up before you get here? And you need to make sure you have work permit before you get here. If you don't you run the risk of getting rejected at the border, I've seen it happen. If they find out you are coming here for work and you don't have the paper work done, they will send you back.

I want to expand on safety, while it is generally safe here and we don't have the random violent crime that a lot of bigger cities have, you should still use your common sense. Like if you go to clubs, never leave a drink unattended. I wouldn't also recommend walking home alone after a bar closes, highly recommend taking a cab or arranging someone else to pick you up. If you go out and are alone, creeps will pick up on that.
