Can we have a frank and ernest discussion about "True Endings" in videogames?

Please mind your spoilers

I recently beat MGSV. I put well over 200 hrs (!) into it. I loved being in that world. I liked how the game has one ending which you can just leave it and be done, if you so choose. However if you unlock a few special missions you get to see the true ending about "The Man Who Sold The World". No spoilers but I think it answered a few WTF type questions I had about the series while bringing up more.

I like getting an ending and playing an after game sequence then saying what the hell? That's crazy. For example: Metal Gear Solid the first one had the infamous phone call to the President Of The US. Great ending.

I was reading about Watch_Dogs 2 or whatever the in the world it's going to be called, I posted the link to the article here has a bit of an end game spoiler so be cautious.

Anyhow I thought it was cool that you could Spoiler decide to kill him or leave him to his fate.

I also find it interesting that to get the true ending of Arkham Knight you have to get all of The Riddler puzzles. I haven't beat that game yet so I'm not exactly sure why.

I'm not a fan of paid true endings however and if you put a true ending in a game, that's fine. However if you want me to pay for a true ending that's not ok. I might pay for a clarification as to why there's an ending to what I did get thought. Just an chapter or two explaining why it happened.

What do you guys think about hidden ending or true endings in games cheap or no?
