Can we please stop with the "what if Bungie let us bring ONE gun with us to year 2..."

Except it's not.

Except it is and its constant comparison to MMOs and constant use of MMO mechanics cement this fact.

The first M in MMO is massive.

Well done Sherlock, you cracked the case.

Destiny isn't massive.

Cool here is the part where you realize that the genre term MMO doesnt mean something as simple as MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE GAME.

The loot pool is tiny. The world is tiny. The content is tiny.

Wow you are just blowing my mind here.

To call it an MMO because we have two whole "raids" is laughable, since they were really just longer strikes.

So hey I didnt get my "MMO : the hard numbers" booklet in the mail and need you to send me a link to it instead.

You know, the booklet that gives the exact numbers on what you need to have to gain the MMO genre tag? Pretty boiler plate stuff.

They borrowed some MMO elements and put it into a linear shooter. That's it.

Mass effect, they took some rpg elements and put it into a linear shooter. That's it.

Its why no one ever calls Mass Effect an RPG.

Oh wait.... shit wait.... thats not right.

You completely miss the point I'm making

No i understand completely the bullshit you are trying to spew.

because of the lack of content

Uh huh....

this game isn't at all comparable to WoW or D3.

Uh huh, i saw this point, its a terrible point that makes no sense.

In D3, ALL your gear matters to how you interact with the world.

Uh huh.

Those gauntlet changes? Very important. Sets, item bonuses, etc impacted gameplay directly.

Woah.

Armor perks in Destiny don't do that much relatively speaking

You know except dictate the exact amount of damage you do based on the light system.

But hey why dont you do me a favor and go do PoE in some blue armor since it doesnt impact directly, that should be easy right?

which is why no one gives a crap whether things change or not

People seem to give a really big amount of "crap" because they are all farming these things continuously and now with them not carrying over forever they are bitching, as you demonstrate wonderfully.

In Destiny, the principle gear that matters is your weapons, of which there are few.

Sure.

Leaving behind weapons to get shittier weapons

Oh bro can I get a link to all the new weapons in TTK? I havent seen them yet.

ala the "new" and "great" PoE weapons in HoW is NOT a viable strategy when you neuter your only source of customization

Those "new" and "great" weapons are so underpowered because of how broken VoG weapons are and their attempt to keep those weapons relevant because of babies crying about gear expiration. mechanics that have existed in every gear game since the dawn of time.

Welcome to the genre.

Let's take it from a different perspective for a moment.

Bro lets here it.

You stated that we should be running VoG when it's relevant, and the reward should be relevant for the time, not forever.

Uh huh...

I'm arguing that the time is still very much relevant

Uh no, that content period has passed, its outleveled completely and the difficulty is a joke.

Its no longer relevant.

Destiny doesn't have enough content to drop the importance of raids yet.

Sorry no but yes it does especially with regards to TTK coming out and it being the reason why these weapons wont be relevant any longer.

Destiny should be adopting a staircase method with their content but the content relevance time is perfectly acceptable as it. 3-5 months of gear being top of the line before becoming "2nd best".

Consider this: under your manta, there's ZERO reason to run the old strikes

Strikes have a scaling difficulty unlike raids and honestly strikes too will need a point to be phased out at.

Destiny 2 will undoubtedly do just that.

since the rewards shouldn't be relevant for TK.

Strikes will, they'll scale up and have its random rewards again.

VoG and the other raids will not and should not.

This eliminates well over 80-90% of the endgame content in one fell swoop.

More like 10-20% but nice try.

That leaves us with what, 1 relevant endgame "raid"?

Yes, have you played an MMO recently? Thats exactly how it works currently.

Destiny isn't WoW.

You keep saying that and yet what you are describing.....

Painting out a large breadth of the endgame in favor of "relevancy" isn't a tenable strategy right now.

Seems fine to me and most others not crying about running VoG for the 5000th time just so some fuckboys can get a broken weapon.

Also, if you're going to use a D3 comparison, D3 never painted out parts of the game

Yes it did, it only recently changed itself to have all acts share the same loot table. The game quite literally painted out all lower acts of the game even on the hardest difficulty by limiting the loot table of them because they were much easier.

Transferred to Destiny, this means that VoG should be dropping the new guns and/or higher attack rating versions of VoG gear

No transferred to Destiny is means all the content would need to be set to level 35 VoG for you to get a Fatebringer thats of current damage quality.

So hey why not do that? Lets see everyone bitch about having to refarm their VoG sets every expansion, lets see them cry after running it over and over and over again to farm a gun they already had but with the new updated stats. Relevant rewards require relevant content difficulty.

Sorry.

The bottom line is this: if Destiny had as much content and/or loot as WoW or D3, it would be a fair comparison.

The bottom line is this: neither of those fucking things matter in the slightest because those are not fucking barometers you have to pass to follow good design etiquette. Level 26 VoG gear does not deserve to be relevant the same way level 5 diablo gear doesnt deserve to be relevant the same way level 30 scarlet monestary gear doesnt deserve to be relevant.

Thats how this works and nobody is breaking the rules of only relevant content producing relevant weapons.

I think the best strategy is to either take the D3 strategy, and allow higher attack level gear to drop from older content (like raids)

They dont allow that. They dont allow higher attack level gear to drop in LOWER content, they release new difficulties every so often that applies to the old content which provides the new values but they have never allowed the lower old content to suddenly be relevant to providing upgrades.

or allow a farmable consumable to upgrade said old gear

Nope again nobody is allowing this, the only way to make this similar to other games with systems like this is to rehash CE and VoG and PoE again with higher difficulties and have you farm out the higher end versions.

Random aside: I found D3 loot far easier to obtain than some guns in Destiny.

Probably because this thing called "smart loot" which is built to just give you what you want/need rather than truely random loot as Destiny does it.

Dat near perfect Furnace. mmmm.

Yeah super fun to just have things given to you, I love when my games do everything for me with as little effort as possible.
