Can someone give me a rundown of what's going on with this EM Drive, and its possible implications?

Nasa has tested a drive that in theory should NEVER work, due to the conservation of momentum, but has essentially provided results that completely invalidate known physics.

the initial testing was done very poorly, and the results could have been a result of external stimuli- this is the common theory as the same microgram of thrust was observed while the machiene was powered off.

However subsequent testing has revealed that when tested under the proper conditions- the effect remains constant, leading someone to theorize that the effect is caused by interacting with spacetime foam.

Further ontop of all of these extraordinary claims that break our current understanding of physics into shreds, we have observed another impossibility- Fluctuation in the speed of light within the EM Drive.

the Light within the Em drive was observed moving Faster and Slower than light should- again however people are attributing this to potentially an environmental biproduct. the signatures of how light is behaving within the EM Drive are IDENTICAL to what the albecurrie drive's predicted signatures would be if a working drive were to be made.

the albecurrie drive is a hypothetical Pseudo Super-luminary travel method that functions by pinching space infront of the ship, and expanding it behind the ship to create negative mass, creating a shorter distance to travel at conventional speeds, resulting in traveling faster than the speed of light by going at far sub-luminal speeds over a far shorter distance. if you ever watched event horizon, the scientists explanation of "whats the shortest distance from Point A to Point B" is essentially how this works- the traditional answer is "A straight line", his answer was "wrong its 0- by pinching points A and B together, you eliminate the distance between the two".

If these results are true this means two things:

  1. we now have the foundation for tech that could get us to mars in mere days, and on nothing more than electric propulsion. if we perfect fusion reactors, it will be possible to house one on a ship, and severely reduce the costs to travel in space- roughly a cup of Hydrogen and Helium could get us from LEO to the Moon in mere hours.
  2. The albecurrie drive is possible, and for far lessened energy requirements without the presence of theoretic "exotic matter" , and we now have the foundation for tech to begin working on a super luminary travel, to get us to neighboring galaxies in mere days.

TL/DR: People wont be satisfied untill nasa puts an EM Drive into space and proves it, People wont fund the trip until nasa can prove it works on earth. so its going to be an eternal circle jerk until one party gives up.
