Can you tell a psychiatrist that you've taken a (non prescription) drug before?

This is your course of action here. In no specific order. 1. Go into the thing like you are a complete ignorant fool who knows nothing about drugs. 2. List your symptoms and make sure you get uncommon ones in there too. The more the better. 3. Dont speak unless spoken to. Unless a doctor mentions it say absolutly nothing about any controlled substance. Its a good way to be labeled with "drug seeking behavior" wasting your time 4.work up. Let the doc do his job. Get a drug then say it doesnt work or has too many side effects. This is the hard part because it requires patience, but dont even nudge or suggest to try anything until you have at least tried a handful of his siggestions. 5. Know your options. If a doctor gives you something its okay to ask "What are my options?" This is missed by a lot of people. Since some doctors are just partial (or paid) to give out certain drugs. Asking that simple question drastically increases your chances. 6. Get diagnosed with the disorder you want to be treated for. It is so easy to take a dumb test and answer all the questions to favor the disorder. Ounce you have it on paper that "jhon doe has such and such a disorder" docs are twice as likely to perscribe you a med to treat that disorder. 7. Be lucky. Some docs just wont perscribe Xanax. It is what is. 8.If you do get your goodies. You can quickly raise your dose to pretty ridiculous amounts. Just go slow and remember to be patient. 9 this is basically how it works in the USA. If you live somewhere else where xanax has been scheduled differently it may be quite difficult to get it. In that case you may have to settle for a similar med. 10 like everyone else said you have doctor patient privilage so no your not gonna get in any trouble. -May the odds be ever in your favor. Edit: I would advise against doctor shopping just because it can be much more risky then being patient and working through different meds. Plus it can be very expensive depending on your insurance.
