I think that if the worst we can say about HBC is that she wants people to just leave each other alone and act peacefully, she’s doing better than most.

Yeah this is a tricky one. I get it. I’m right there with you. JK is vile and needs to be gone from the public spotlight. I hate that I enjoyed her books as a kid and absolutely despise how successful she became before we k ew what she was. But idk, does posting about her own personal opinions on social media warrant assaulting her? Or threatening her kid? Her views are shit, but she’s allowed to post them. Conservatives use the “they posted something I agree with so I get to attack them” argument literally every day and we have to fight against that nonstop. How is it acceptable, then, for us to do the same to them? JK isn’t attacking Trans people in the street, people have attacked her for being a terf. It’s a disproportionate response, and that’s what I get from HBC, a criticism of disproportionate responses.

If we want the freedoms to be ourselves, we have to allow others that same freedom, even if who they are is someone we don’t like. It is not ok to throw away everything we are working toward because someone we don’t like is using the same rights in order to promote their own views that don’t line up with ours. That’s hypocrisy at its finest.
