CFP - Making Sense of 3 loss USC

You would also face the possibility that Colorado 11-1 Ohio State would get in over a Pac 12 Champion 2 loss USC team with a OoC schedule like that. Colorado has Michigan on their schedule and they are looking at Ohio State sitting at #2 while they wonder the abyss that is everyone out of the top 4. Even Washington sitting here with one loss is on the outside looking in at the moment hoping that Michigan upsets Ohio State or praying that the Pac 12 championship can put them in over Ohio State.

For the record USC's schedule gives you a bit more leeway than say a Washington schedule. USC could have lost to Alabama and won the rest of their games and they would clearly be in the top 4 right now. Even with two losses I think they would be in the top 10 probably right where Wisconsin currently sits. You put Washington's OoC schedule on USC resume I think USC would sit around where Tennessee is currently. Its clear that the CFP committee will forgive a OoC loss to a Alabama or a Virginia Tech which was the team that beat Ohio State two years ago. They will punish weak OoC scheduling which is what put TCU and Baylor on the outside looking in at Ohio State two years ago.
