I know my mom is fucking loaded, despite having raised me as if we were at best lower-middle-class. It started when my dad had health problems so she got paranoid and squirreled away every loose penny she could, which made sense- she had just had a kid, and had a husband in the hospital who might never return.

Thing is, she NEVER STOPPED that, even after dad got a transplant and a clean bill of health. She just 'locked' into this attitude of almost depression-era scrounging. She does things like stick buckets in the shower while it's heating up so she can use the water to manually flush the toilet rather than 'flushing money away.' I always figured since she doesn't make a LOT of money at her job and I had no idea what dad makes, that she was just kinda on the very edge.

Then I was at her house trying to find some document I needed for my health insurance and I found a fucking bank statement. Holy shit.
