Good luck...it’s tough to pull the trigger and commit to retirement. We retired two years ago, hubby is 62, We’re living on a pension, have a 401k. We sold the family home, too much maintenance and repairs to keep up and taxes so we relocated to a much cheaper 55+ community. It was a mental health decision overall.
I walked around for the first year just waiting for some forgotten set of bills to show up in the mail and decimate the checking account. We budgeted around $3,000 monthly expenses. The only thing we didn’t prepare adequately for was our portion of the health insurance. Even though we have a retiree medical account that pays 70%, we were hit with $800 a month for our portion. Ouch. Hubby is doing some consulting which is a God sent. You never know what retirement interests you’ll fall into, in our case it was two rescue dogs, one of which requires monthly grooming, the other medication.
