CMV: So long as Russia doesn't go any further than recognizing and backing separatist regions in Ukraine, I don't think they can be blamed

I would not blame Ukraine for defending itself, but I would fear for its safety and I do not think escalation would accomplish anything good.

I'm not saying that Russia is justified in anything it does in the conflict. There is no need to redraw the map. But if it staves off armed conflict and massive casualties, potentially a world war, I think it's a small price to pay. What my position is and has been, is that if I had to bet on what is happening it's that Putin is motivated to make a point, I don't care how offensive you think my hypothesis is. I just don't think this childish "it's all because Putin is Hitler" b.s. is right about anything.
