CMV: Puberty blockers cause long term damage that we don't fully understand and we should explore other methods of "holding people over" until they reach the age of maturity.

My wife's sister's child in China had her first period at 9. It's a family thing; her mum had them at 11. But it seems to be getting younger every generation.

They were afraid she might be considered "dirty" by the other kids or feel bad about herself so they got puberty blockers prescribed.

The whole extended family (including me and my wife) discussed it but they decided to go for it. My feeling was that it was;t really safe and might bring future problems but they wanted to do it.

That was about six years ago; she's 15 now. I still wonder if there will be problems ahead.

Note that this is nothing to do with trans phobia. Puberty blockers have other uses beyond people who are experiencing gender dysphoria.
