Conservatism turned toxic: Donald Trump’s fanbase has no actual ideology, just a nihilistic hatred of liberals

Yeah, this has been obvious for a while in the general political discourse online. You'll see comments in sympathetic channels upvoted and retweeted by the hundreds that offer nothing of substance and give no suggestions toward policy or principle. Its usually something like...

  • hahahahaha delicious libfag tears
  • WE WON YOU LOST WE WON SEE YOU IN 8 YEARS
  • I can't wait for President Trump to start ___ and watch you coastal elites squirm in agony

Or a good one I saw yesterday: We're not conservative, we're a new breed who likes to win! Its like a sports match to a significant chunk of the voting population. No wonder his authoritarian leanings pulled in so many evangelical since they have shown themselves largely to be people who like to feel safe and be on the team perceived as victorious, even if it comes at the cost of contradicting their own ostensible moral values.

And at the risk of beating the dictator comparisons horse come on now, this is how you get into a very nasty place and elevate people who are fundamentally and temperamentally unfit to be in power in a democratic republic; when you have masses of voters unable to articulate -- or not even knowing -- what they want from a president on policy, ignoring their better judgment and validating a demagogue because its their way of sticking it to a group they dislike. We're retreading some dangerous steps our history lessons warned us against.

Anyway, the MAGA and run shit needs to get called out more. It's not a legitimate substitute for a defense of one's views and to be honest for all the mockery of hope and change by Republicans since Obama was elected there's never been more brainless and empty sloganeering than with Trump's red trucker hat bullshit.
