No wonder his authoritarian leanings pulled in so many evangelical since they have shown themselves largely to be people who like to feel safe and be on the team perceived as victorious, even if it comes at the cost of contradicting their own ostensible moral values.
And at the risk of beating the dictator comparisons horse come on now, this is how you get into a very nasty place and elevate people who are fundamentally and temperamentally unfit to be in power in a democratic republic; when you have masses of voters unable to articulate -- or not even knowing -- what they want from a president on policy, ignoring their better judgment and validating a demagogue because its their way of sticking it to a group they dislike. We're retreading some dangerous steps our history lessons warned us against.
