Covid-19 has made me realize that a 1K emergency fund is far from sufficient.

About two weeks ago on his podcast, Dave ranted about Nashville schools unjustly closing early for what would later be a tornado that killed 22 people that evening. I think his wording was that people had “lost their minds”. Then he tried to downplay the first corona virus fears that came up and called people wusses. He threatened on air that he was going to keep the money people had already spent for the debt free cruise coming up if they canceled. He did eventually cancel the cruise. Also, slightly related, his daughter Rachel Cruz recently posted in her Instagram stories a video of her with fellow Ramsey personality Christy Wright, toasting and laughing on a city rooftop. Rachel Cruz’s words you the camera were, verbatim, “Cheers to corona” before taking a sip of her champagne glass. Pretty tone deaf considering how this has negatively impacted practically everyone in SOME way.

I haven’t seen a post about Rachel here, but all of the other instances have been mentioned in threads before, with some people linking to the rants. I would cite my sources here but I’m on mobile.

Since starting my DFJ, I live and breathe by plans, and I have followed the Dave Ramsey plan to the letter. I’m not a freelancer, I’m not having a baby, I’m not making any life changes that would cause any unforeseen expenses, and so I thought I was okay. But even a $2,000 EF would have bought me some more time. I’m not expecting Dave Ramsey to have an iron clad plan that would cover every crises or COVID in life, but with everything that has come from his team lately, I feel like I need not have anymore Koolaide. And thank you, I will live and learn! I am much better off than some other people and I need to practice my gratitude!
