Damning evidence of how formulaic pop country has become

Lol, you didn't respond to me. You responded to someone else but I wanted to chime in because I thought you were over generalizing.

First, I really believe that the term "pop music" is just too generic of a term. I actually consider Radiohead pop music as much I consider Britney Spears pop music. So to say that there are few pop musicians with no talent is really unclear, since the definition of pop music is unclear itself.

If by pop music you mean top 40 radio station music, then sure, you're correct, a lot of it IS the producer programming the song and the celebrity putting the face to it. But it isn't the case for everyone; every scenario, every artist, every deal, and every album is different. To lump everything together is a bit unfair. For example, Swift's 1989 had a few writers on some tracks, but her Speak Now album was written entirely by herself. I happen to listen to a Lot of pop/top-40 music and I have to say there's many pop musicians out there who are extremely talented. Kanye is a prime example -- every album he's made has been critically acclaimed. Having others collaborate on music isn't a bad thing, either. Producers have talent, singers have talent. When a band releases an album it's the work of 4 people... why can't producers program pop music for pop musicians? I don't think it nullifies the authenticity of the project in any way. Successful producers get paid the big bucks too. Look at Timbaland or The Neptunes. They charged upwards of $100,000 - $200,000+ for a single beat back in the early 00s.

Every pop musician had to start somewhere. Every pop musician had to start with some kind of talent to get their million dollar major deals. You can't just be some random bloke off the street and then become a pop star. People love to hate pop stars but it isn't exactly the easiest thing to become one; in fact, it's quite the opposite. I'm not trying to change your opinion. I'm just trying to say that the underground musicians that you listen to is no better or worse than the successful pop musicians today. Both groups of people make good and bad music. One group just happens to have gotten signed to major record labels, are more easily marketable, and has more money to spend on their music -- but you can't discredit the fact that they didn't work hard to achieve that status.
