In my opinion I think it’s not really tactful the way she handled you missing your family dogs. She instead decided to tell you how she doesn’t like dogs? Obviously you do considering you just said you missed them.

Which led to her getting you to inquire about not liking dogs, and expected empathy over her fathers near death experience. Obviously she knows you like dogs, why wouldn’t you ask?

She just said her fathers “still in pain to this day” it’s not the dogs fault but her feelings are valid nonetheless, doesn’t mean anyone has to share it. My dad almost died in a motorcycle hitting a deer. Do I hate deers? No. I almost died in a motorcycle accident getting merged into and other random events. I can’t fathom the grief I would’ve felt had I been in an accident with a dog.

I do think you should answer her question with honesty and that your values / lifestyles are different. Dating is hard and it’s good self reflection on both of you to be genuine.
