Dave Chappelle show moved to Varsity Theater

You don't have the courage of your convictions. You can very easily see me talking about it here. I thought that First Ave in particular booking Dave violated their purported values and I made my thoughts known by multiple avenues. I watched his specials. In the earlier one he had the whole bit about the queer folks riding in the car and the trans character was whiny and insufferable. It was a bit clumsy but at least had the structure of a joke. In the other special he mostly just ranted about his viewpoints on trans and gender identity, proclaimed himself team TERF, tried to head off criticism by saying he did not have a problem with trans people, he had a problem with white people who can suddenly change froma white person to a trans person so that they are then oppressed and marginalized and can't be criticized. Then he tells an unfunny story about the woman who he claims was a friend that committed suicide and he makes it all about him. That this woman committed suicide because of her association with him. Very convenient he gets to control that narrative. Then he ends on the joke of misgendering her to her kids. None of which was funny, and just because he says he has no problem with trans people, his positions he professes tell a different story. Now earlier in the special he tells a joke that is classic Chappelle about women harrassed and abused in the workplace and how he will help them and stand for him, they just have to suck his dick first. That is in the style of what Chappelle always did well and is adept ar irony and awareness. He just lacks that depth on the trans issue. Which he also claimed he would drop but now somehow teenagers and cancel culture have forced him to continue.

So the bet was, I complained and I watched the specials. Pay up.
