Dealer trying hard not to sell me a car. Why?

Manual vs. Auto. I don't know if I'll like driving a manual after all these years on an auto. If it clicks then I'll buy it. My bank has already told me low 3% interest rate, I won't be financing through the dealer if they can't beat that. I'm not dinging my credit to make the dealer comfortable. That's dumb especially when I've shown I can write a check for the car.

What would happen if I got the credit app and on the test drive discovered a knock? Guy that leased the car dragged the car for the last 100 miles of the lease and the rear end vibrates at 60mph? Now I have a ding on my credit and there was never a car to buy. 2 months later I decide to buy a house instead of a car and instead of 3.9% I would have gotten now I'm paying 4.5% APR. That's an extra $10,000 per $100,000 over 30 years. All because I gave into a dealer just to get to a test drive. Be smart with your credit folks.
