Deep-carry pocket sheath for my Benchmade Steep Canyon - version 2

Check out v1 here.

I’m happy to report that I ended up with exactly what I’d wanted. I can reach down and pluck the knife from my pocket effortlessly, in one motion and with a solid grip on the handle, and I can likewise drop it back in my pocket in one motion without having to look down. I’m finding it to be even faster and easier than a belt sheath, and more conveniently located. It suits my needs perfectly as a bushcrafter who tends to make just a quick cut or two every few minutes.

The biggest change I made from v1 was actually just getting a quality clip. With a clip that provides solid retention on my pocket, I’ve found that I don’t even need a thumb ramp. I just grab the knife and pull. And without the thumb ramp it’s much easier to get my my keys out of that pocket, and there’s more available handle space to grip on the draw.

The other major change is that I basically turned the sheath around, moving both the rivets and the ramp to opposite sides of the knife. I put the rivets on the spine side to prevent them from making the knife ride higher and more forward then I wanted, and I put the ramp on the blade side to guide the cutting edge more smoothly into the sheath, and to protect my pocket.

This seems like the perfect sheath style…Why doesn’t everyone carry like this??
