Multiple people here responded to you with nothing but politeness, but you keep doubling down on beliefs that the evidence you yourself provided demonstrates are wrong.

Say you developed an addiction and your 12 yo son is put in foster care while you do rehab. You complete the rehab and meet you son again... to find your son has had hormones and major therapy.

You are trying a little too hard to come up with a scenario that validates you. If you are a single parent that develops an addiction bad enough to have to go to rehab for six months, you are not now nor were you ever in a position to dictate what kind of care your child needs to receive. That is an extraordinarily bad situation and even after completing rehab, it would be years before you had custody of your child restored.
