Does anyone find that the quality of prose is the biggest barrier to entry in reading this genre and ones like it?

Polar opposite of JRPGs, where the protagonists are all batman (refuse to kill even when it's clear that leaving someone alive is even less ethical).

I'm playing through one right now where the MC refused to kill a literal sociopath who was still actively in the process of trying murder them.

After a godawful scene where the protagonists all reassure each other that even though their entire motivation is revenge they're still too good to kill someone whose name they know, the sociopath tries to murder them again, and more or less trips and falls on his blade, killing himself.

If it were any other context I'd assume it was satire, but it wasn't.
