Why don't police brutality protests specifically target police stations, cop cars, court houses, and other official buildings instead of retail stores and private businesses? Wouldn't this force change faster and make the correct people suffer?

Actually I was watching "Let It Fall" and "LA 92" about the protests resulting from the Latasha Harlins and Rodney King trials, and they obviously made me reflect on the George Floyd/BLM situation of last summer.

In the case of the King/Harlins injustice, Black people in LA were angry about the legal system failing Black people and never sufficiently punishing those who take Black lives.

In my opinion, the rage should've been directed towards:

  • the officers who attacked Rodney King
  • the Chief of Police and District Attorney
  • the lady who shot Harlins
  • the Judge and Juries involved in the case
  • the legal system itself

Instead the subsequent riots focused on local business owners, liquor stores, and the infamous violent near-murder of a truck driver, Reginald Denny.

I guess I don't understand why "ABC caused me harm, so I'm gonna go over here and take it out on XYZ" is the formula here.
