Driver who killed Erica Stark on Toronto sidewalk fined $1,000

Even the victim's husband doesn't get it—$50,000 fine? That's the sticker price of a fully loaded Honda Odyssey before taxes.

Take their license and driving privileges away for even minor offences, anything that would fail the road test, make them take the bus, treat them like children that aren't responsible enough to operate a motor vehicle yet, let them experience that for awhile because it would have a real effect on their life, it would take some of their freedoms away, unlike a $100 fine that's really just revenue for the government. No one is serious about road safety. All those education and awareness campaigns fall on deaf ears and are a waste of money. The reality is some people should not be allowed to own guns because they're violent, some people should not be allowed to have kids because they'll abuse them, some people should't be allowed to have pets because they're cruel to animals, and some people should not be allowed to drive because they are careless and irresponsible—you give them a two-ton SUV and a cellphone and they'll abuse it, and someone will die. Violent criminals have the intention to kill people, these idiots have no intention of driving safely, it never crosses their mind, their own children have to tell them that they shouldn't be using a phone while driving. It's unbelievable how irresponsible adults are today, you are more likely to be killed by an ordinary soccer mom driving on the sidewalk in this country than you are by a violent criminal. Just compare the murder rate to traffic fatalities. And the police will tell you all those fatalities were preventable.
