Education isn't enough.

Your comment on income is reasonable, if affordability and income are well-matched in a given region.

I just want to comment on the “3 months off per year” part. A teacher who takes their job seriously is showing up an hour before school, leaving an hour or two after, taking home a stack of grades to work on into the night (without compensation), and then spending the summer workshopping, revising curriculum, engaging in professional development or continuing education, and prepping for the next year. That may not always be time physically in the classroom, but working from home is still working— and that time is not usually factored into salaries. And many teachers also sponsor clubs, chaperone events, and other responsibilities beyond the classroom (often with minimal or no stipend) that enrich the students’ learning and social development.

Income arguments aside, it is a broad assumption and generalization to suggest that a teacher who truly embraces the profession is not working year-round.
