Elizabeth Warren: The system is 'rigged'

I've transcribed this, but you should watch it. Senator Warren is really on fire in this interview. I don't think there are errors, but the text simply does not do her delivery justice.

I: You talked a lot now and previously about the system being rigged, you used that word at the 2012 DNC-

E: And there's the example.

I: Is it less rigged since you've gone to the senate? More rigged?

E: I don't know how to measure. All I know is, it is rigged. And it's still rigged. It works for those who have money and power. Think about it. They hire armies of lobbyists and lawyers. They make sure that candidates for office have heard their point of view. They make sure that every agency hears every day from their industry. I think of this as the wind only blows in one direction in Washington and that is to make sure that the rich and powerful get richer and more powerful.

I: Are you still an outsider to that system? You campaigned as an outsider. Do you still consider yourself an outsider to that system?

E:Yeah. I'm never gonna be an insider. It's-

I: And yet you wield a great deal of power within it. How do you explain those-

E:No, I'm from without it. Well think about it, Come on. Why are all the Democrats ready to talk about Social Security, and why are the Republicans like trying to find reverse on their limousines to back this up, right? We know, on Social Security, and the answer isn't because "insiders", it isn't because a bunch of people got together and had a tight little group in Washington met and decided the fate of Social Security. It's because people all around this country said: "This matters."

People in this country believe that after a lifetime of work people should be entitled to retire with dignity. It's just part of who we are. It is an economic statement but it is a value statement. People believe that. And what it takes is enough people out in front saying it. But what gives it power is all those people behind it saying, "Yeah, you bet! you bet. That's how we make change. We make it not from the inside, but from the outside.
