Eric Weiss (Thread): Been thinking of a way to articulate my thoughts on the @celtics season(s) long struggle with consistency, here’s my take: The actual offensive strategy is predicated on 5-out spacing & using the threat of the 3 to create space for drives and off-ball movement

I think the bigger problem is a lot of our 5 out lineups lack guys who you can consistently run actions for to create chances inside the arc. Most of our scoring comes from guys like Tatum, Brown, Smart and White who all generally rely on creating their own shot from 2 with their assisted looks often coming in transition. Smart is great at finding them on cuts when guys make mistakes, but that’s pretty much the only time you see it and it goes away in clutch time when defenses tighten up.

Usually you’d expect your interior scoring consistency to come from bigs, but as this mentioned they’ve played a lot of 5 out. Horford and Grant are basically just shooters even if Horford is capable of more in spurts, so they can’t give us that consistency. Rob helps but he’s been hurt and Blake helps but he doesn’t play. This is why I’m hoping we see more Blake down the stretch and in the playoffs.
