Europeans who’ve visited the US, what made you go “WTF”?

I've always rolled my eyes at these chains when I read about them. Then one morning I went to a Whataburger for some breakfast and they told me the person in front left an extra $5 to use towards my meal or I could leave it for the next person. I was just like "oh... cool. here's the remaining amount" and left. I felt so awkward.

I kid you not, I went back to the same location a few days later around the same time and it happened again! Only this time it was the full "the person in front paid for your order!" I just accepted it and left without continuing it. I think I did a good thing, having allowed the person in front of me to complete their good deed instead of passing it on. Plus the next person doesn't have to be put in as awkward of a position as I was just put in.

I was scared to go back to that location for a little while. I had wondered if they were trying to artificially start a chain to make the news or something.
