Facts

Of course I agree it’s not a need, so long as your hair is virgin and in fairly good condition already. When it’s a need is the platinum blonde curly girl whose hair will literally break off if she doesn’t use good products because when you do to your hair certain things, you have to understand it’s a costly commitment to keep your hair healthy.

However, for the best hair over a long period of time professional products win. Every client who has come to me using drugstore “CGM approved” products had extremely dried out hair, oil buildup, and a weighed down appearance to their hair. Because using a heavy product over and over and not fully cleaning your hair at least twice a month is bound to create a buildup. Oil isn’t inherited bad for the hair, but it’s not moisturizing and I think that’s the problem notion that people have, that to solve their dry hair they should put oil. So companies shove oil in their products because it makes the hair look shiny and soft, but a gentle cowash is not strong enough to remove this, especially if you like to reapply between washes.

Again, not an expert, not telling anyone this is what they have to do 100%, just a professional stylist who sees a lot of curly hair and notices the patterns before her.
