FBI Director Wray says Russia a 'very significant counterintelligence threat'

Intelligence is different and the same as counterintelligence in a lot of ways. Intelligence broadly is the collection, analysis, and dissemination of the information to policy makers so they can make informed decisions on different topics. This is a very simple definition and doesn’t cover everything. There’s intelligence categories like HUMINT (human intelligence), SIGINT (signals intelligence), IMINT (imagery intelligence), etc.

Counterintelligence is the detection and prevention of foreign agent operations within the United States. CI uses a lot of HUMINT and various investigative tools to catch spies. Penetration into foreign governments and intelligence agencies are the number one way of catching spies in the US. Double agent operations, although not used as often today, are another tool CI uses.
