Federal regulators to require registration of recreational drones

I think they've got to spend some time figuring out what qualifies as a drone.

$26 will get you a 2"x2" quad copter that can enter airspace. Good luck finding a spot on there to put an N number.

So, maybe bigger would be a good start. We keep throwing around "DRONES" but

$549 gets you a plane, with no camera....runs on gas and has a 8 foot wing span Would that cause damage? Can that reach some altitude where other planes are flying? You're darn tootin.

So, maybe it's the ones with cameras, does that make a drone?

$280 will get you FPV goggles, a transmitter, and reciever. You can make your Car, boat, or Cat FPV with this. Or...attach it to a airplane with a 8' wingspan.

So, maybe it's LOS (line of sight). But plenty of airplanes can fly LOS and have sophisticated computers.

And you can put a pilotless airplane into the sky with something as simple as a piece of paper.

I'm not saying "NO REGULATION" is the answer...but that there are a lot of various ways to classify and understand these things. And people keep focusing on ONLY the bad. There are quite a bit of good that can come from them as well. So, the FAA/AMA need to sit down and hash out what is a drone and what requires markings. And not throw something together...cough obamacare How's that website working? It's been about 6 years...still haven't got the bugs out yet.
