First genetically-modified human embryos 'could be created in Britain within weeks' | Science | News

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Yes, like children, we start out - wide eyed and excited to "improve" our species through genetic modification.

The problem is that you are making bold statements under the assumption that you understand the meaning of life, the purpose of life, and, essentially, what constitutes a "good life" as I have said previously.

but if you take a kid and make him smarter, you have improved him.

Improved him how? By making him better able to pass tests? To better understand mathematics? By making him happier? By helping him earn more money?

You assume that intelligence will help you have a "better" life, but you refuse to accept that you, like literally every other person in the world, are not educated enough to say what makes a life "better".

Is it being rich?

High IQ - which we hope leads people to earn more income (something that we "intelligent" individuals value so highly) does not necessarily a better life make.

Society perpetuates the happiness of "attractive" individuals by valuing their worth as higher than "unattractive" individuals. Likewise, we do this with intelligence (but not until later in life).

This is what society does. It is not a fact.

I recall reading the book Feed) (which really wasn't very well written). They talked about "lesions" becoming popular. Yes, people were intentionally cutting their skin because it was a fad.

Anyway, I'm rambling, but moral hangups are important - otherwise, we would kill off less desirable human beings - people with traits that the majority of those deemed "intelligent" value.

That's what eugenics will lead us to - every time.

It's sad but true.
