[FiveThirtyEight] The best NFL receivers, according to ESPN analytics

I mean there’s not much to say. You’re basing a WR’s worth or value off of their yards completed? Unless I’m missing something. The analytics are putting more to a player than ball catches… they could even break it down further. I do disagree with you that this is a poor ranking structure. However, not because “he has more yards”. I assume you looked at the page (unless you just loooes for your “star” WR’s positions). What is not included in the analytics are things like how much value does a WR draw from the defense (ie how much coverage is dedicated to him), how well does he block to allow other receivers to get yards (team play), they have in there how often they’re open (id get more analytics from that), etc. creating opportunity and having opportunity exploited and executed are all different things. In a team sport, team analytics AND personal score should get an overall value on a WR. Things like dropped passes and missed routes (which Tyreek is starting to be known for) should really negatively lower WR ratings in this model.
