For people who have completed PhD programs, was it worth it?

PhD in computer science, machine learning specifically. You can get wealthy - rich - with just a regular undergraduate degree in computer science (and maye no degree at all!). Having a PhD in this field could potentially make you even more money than just an undergraduate, but not necessarily, and even if it does earn you more, not necessarily by a lot. It's very possible for a regular graduate to earn more than than a postgrad.

It's important to understand, though, that I'm in the UK. By default everyone thinks of US salaries and careers when talking about tech, but in the UK it's very different. The top salaries in tech in the UK are basically the entry level salaries in the US (e.g. like $100,000). The entry level tech salaries in the UK would be unbelievable to anyone working in tech in the US (e.g. $40,000). On average, if you're working in tech in the UK, regardless of what domain you work in or what qualifications you have, you're probably going to be earning somewhere around $70,000.

My starting salary with my PhD was about $5,000 more than I could expect with just bachelor's degree. Beyond that, I'm earning basically the same as my peers with just a bachelor's.

PhD in computer science in the UK is totally not worth it if you're looking to make money.
