Former Facebook exec: "I think we have created tools that are ripping apart the social fabric of how society works. The short-term, dopamine-driven feedback loops we’ve created are destroying how society works. No civil discourse, no cooperation; misinformation, mistruth. You are being programmed"

It’s not a problem of Facebook or the internet. It is a problem that started in exactly 2008 when there when. Thanks to exclusively Apple.

I was following multi-touch technology since I first read about it during the inception phase of the film Minority report, and its inventors who I believe did it at NYU. Anyways in 2007 when the iPhone 1 was released it was incredible, but extremely exclusive. This was the beginning of it all.

The following year Apple and AT&T would release the iPhone 3G at a subsidized price of $200. This flooded American households with a fun new toy. Because of this specific event vast numbers of people that have no business being near an internet connected device, simply because they have no grasp of how the internet operates, began to get iPhones for themselves or as gifts. All of a sudden there was a market for mass media catering to everything. Where as before the internet community was fairly small, from 2008 and on it began to grow massively.

Android, the App Store, the iPad and 10 years later and everyone and their mother getting gifts we have a massively connected world.

TLDR most people who otherwise would not use technology shouldn’t be allowed on the internet.
