Friend received an alarming message today from Russia. She has never owned an iPhone 4s

About 2 yrs ago I got an exact message like that from a phone whose serial # I identified as a phone I had returned through my asirios phone insurance replacement program (w/ Sprint). As a former intel officer, I panicked when I saw the number originating from near Kiev (Ukraine). The person kept messaging me to delete from my iPhone listed devices and unlink my Apple ID as well.

He sent me pics that were still in said phone. To give background, this phone’s screen was damaged badly, but it still worked when I turned it in to sprint for the insurance to replace my phone.

After I unliked my Ud and deleted it from my apple accts, he messaged me to tell me it worked and that he appreciated it because he had bought it off eBay. Game me the sold-listing and tracking info from his purchase too. I realized that what likely happened is that the customer service reps had likely just sold the phone on eBay on the side and sent who knows what the f back to the insurance company (as they have access to many damaged phones from customers).

2 yrs later...nothing happened. In my case, it was a simple international purchase from a regular Ukrainian guy wanting a phone. I got lucky. I still called my banks, former security officers from the military, and kept an eye on all my accounts as I usually do.

That said, it could be anything really. Hopefully it’s something similar in your case.
