Go fuck yourself, Montana, and take the rest of the "conservatives" with you.

Fair point. That's definitely what the words themselves mean, and denying it would be stupid and cowardly. What I was thinking was "Go fuck yourself and take the rest of the conservatives with you when you do that, so that all of you can go fuck yourselves." I should have written that differently. I paused for a moment before posting. Should have paused longer.

On the other hand, it's one thing to hate and want to do violence to people who aren't like you. It's something else to be fed up with people who think that way, who demonize and constantly lie about people on your side of the political spectrum, and who lap up lies, distortions and propaganda without a hint of critical reflection. Not wanting to have to share a country or a political system with those people isn't unreasonable. It's defensive and self-protective.

A parliamentary democracy/republic can't function when one party regards the other as the enemy or politically illegitimate. There are many things on which I don't agree with the conservatives I know, but the conservatives I know are also thoughtful, intelligent people. That's why I'm able to spend time with them without losing my marbles. But in most of the country, the political environment treats anyone who isn't a conservative as a clear and present threat, a danger and an enemy. People who think that way are the problem.
