I find it interesting that he's gonna return in 9.14, it could be a mirror to his first return from 6.14 as maybe showing that he will turn over a new leaf as a better side of him or even worst.

I was hoping for a tv movie for showing him searching Sherry considering that Austin is into indie movies and that he already got a story ending on the show, also they could have used a different environment featuring snow. They teased other project so that would have fit better Imo, also the huge second time jump would be a little hard to belive his return but I guess he could still play a part on the show considering the fact that they are gonna clean the roster in 9.16.

Imo his story is gonna go this way considering that Daryl will most probably play the Militia leader part for obvious reasons:

•turning into a full time whisperer villian due to him losing Sherry and his rivalry with Daryl and Negan.

•or him and Sherry still being Whisperers and Daryl welcoming them to the main communities by taking the comic part of Aaron and Jesus welcoming the that Whisperers family. I guess if that's true then he's gonna give info about the Whisperers so that would be the same storyline so I would like more the first option.

Either way it should be an interesting dynamic between Daryl and Dwight considering that Daryl will be a changed person post Rick's death. I mean if Daryl can work together with Negan then he can definitely work together with Dwight.
