'Game of Thrones' actor Finn Jones to play 'Iron Fist' in Marvel series

Except he's always has been a white character, and has been cast as a white person. I really don't get why people have so focused on making Danny Rand of all people Asian. I don't have a problem at all with changing the race or a gender of a character. I think in some cases it's served the story well. Jeryn Hogarth was a man in the comics, and I think Carrie Ann Moss' portrayal in the series was fantastic. Blind Al in Deadpool was an old white lady who was a total doppleganger for Aunt May in the comics, and I actually like Leslie Uggams' portrayal even more. There's really no good examples that aren't supporting characters, and that I agree isn't right.

I have a few problems with changing Danny Rand's race. One, being a white guy is implicitly part of his character. Two, having the first major Asian character that the MCU puts out be a stereotype of Asian is a problem in itself. Instead of being called racist through not showing enough diversity via lack of representation, they are accused of being racist because of a hollywood stereotype. That really doesn't make any sense. Plus, there already is a character that is an Asian master of martial arts, Shang Chi, and one of the main thing that distinguishes him from Iron Fist is that he IS asian and has no superpowers, but is still a total badass.

I'm okay with casting people of different backgrounds in adaptations. It is an adaptation and things will inevitably change. If you are changing key parts of a characters background, you are also changing the story. Marvel has tons of lesser known characters with far smaller fan bases that can easily be changed and/or fleshed out more with out making any changes.
