This is the GAMEDEV reddit, not the MARKETING reddit.

Don't get upset, princess.

Yet, you still won't listen.

you responded to my specific example with just stating a general marketing technique

A core marketing technique, actually. Use google if you want more info.

The GGJ co-founder I mentioned taught me bis dev and marketing, Lastly, I like how you conveniently failed to reply to the part where I cited industry veterans whom you say don't know what they are talking about.

I spent 5 years learning Business Marketing, and Small Business Management, from professors that worked at Microsoft, Xerox, Proctor and Gamble, Molson, and many who grew their own businesses. You're basing your information off of second hand info, from a developer?

I'll let you in on a secret. Business owners are sometimes the worst marketers. There are people who can build things. People who can sell things. Not very often are they the same person. Which is why I argue with developers a lot. If you build something with the majority purpose to sell it, you're going to have a bad business. Why do you think people hate EA and their marketing influenced microtransaction games? That's what happens when marketing and developing are too close.

For the fourth or fifth time, marketing is part of game development.

If you make that choice. As a marketer, I advise my clients to make the best game possible and leave the marketing to me. My international business professor who worked for Molson, told me a good product speaks every language. Which means, people will find a way to buy it, if it's good.

Goat Simulator actually has a Wiki section detailing their marketing strategy,

GS started way for the devs to learn the Unreal engine. Only after their poorly made alpha footage hit youtube, did they know. Then the work began. Which is my entire point. Start with the concept, market later. Though the game was not completely developed and ended up a lot more polished at release, the core of the game remained the same.

Why would anyone browsing this sub want to buy a super bowl ad?
