Garry Newman regrets supporting Linux: "If i could do it again I'd have never supported linux."

Hey Garry

We're kind of in a shitty spot, and it's never going to get better without support from developers. There aren't many Linux gamers because there aren't many Linux games..... because there aren't many Linux gamers. And because there aren't many Linux gamers, Nvidia puts us on the back burner, AMD puts us on the back burner, game devs put us on the back burner. I would have switched to Linux a decade ago if it wasn't for the lack of games.. and I feel like that's the case for a lot of people. I see a lot of new posters in linux subreddits saying they want to switch to linux "BUT" they want to play games. Games and Photoshop are the two biggest things holding people back.

So first, I understand why some people are being hostile given some of your past statements about linux (which people tend to take personally), but I do think that they're doing more harm than good by reacting defensively about it. We're just in a really frustrating position, and negative comments from developers really hit home. Second, even if you regret supporting Linux, thanks for doing it in the first place. The more support we get, the more games we get, the more games we get, the more people will be willing to switch over and the better the sales numbers will be on the OS. The better the sales, the better we'll get supported by GPU manufacturers. We're not a bunch of whiny neckbeards.. we're just people who like technology and value security and freedom.

Valve is doing a lot to boost the platform, as is Unreal Engine and Unity, and I suspect the release of Vulkan is going to do great things as well. It's only going to get better from here, but not without developer support.

Our attempts to release our games for Linux are shit and aren't appreciated. That's made abundantly clear every time one of these posts is made, so what are we doing it for?

I'm sure it's abundantly clear to you that the early access gaming community is absolute garbage all around. You change one thing that ever so slightly rubs people the wrong way, and suddenly you're a shitty developer and everyone starts throwing off personal attacks. I wouldn't say the linux gaming community is any different. It isn't that linux support isn't appreciated, it's that a bunch of immature gamers don't know how to address a problem with respect just like the rest of the gaming community.
