Giving up almost 6 figures?!

I actually just left the oil and gas industry, except I was in West Virginia / Appalachia area. The money is good in the industry, but comes with a lot of downsides, for one, pretty hazardous to your health. Now I'm not sure what kind of chemicals you deal with that is all that dangerous but I was up to my waste in OBM on a daily basis for shifts that once you leave for, you never know how long you're going to be out for. I did that over the past 8 months after leaving the Marine Corps in January. Now I work in the steel industry making more than I had ever thought possible outside of Oil and Gas. What I recommend is that you use this job as a stepping stone. You use it to fund whatever education you might need for a job you want, whether it be trade school or college. Or just use it as a kind of place holder until you find a job with more upward growth potential. That's what I used mine for, it took a while but it in the end it was worth it. Take advantage of your debtless life and put away as much as possible so when you do find something that actually interests you or figure out what the next step is, you can make the move without having to worry about the costs as much. Everything is better with a cash cushion, especially when you're making leaps into the somewhat unknown. I wish you good luck, OP.
