Good Samaritan tackles off-duty LMPD officer during alleged beating : "I noticed he had her in a choke hold and he was standing behind her and her feet were barely touching the ground and I didn't know if he was trying to kill her or what."

Unfortunately, stories about crooked cops sells more than stories about cops putting their lifes on the line everyday. If they do their jobs normally and everyone is safer because of that, no one will bother to tell the story. My dad's a cop and i have the utmost respect for cops

1) It they're truly good cops, then why aren't they reporting the crooked cops? Why aren't they cleaning house and flushing the toilet on the dirty, criminals in uniform? I'll tell you why, because the "brotherhood" is more important than public safety and the law.

2) If the cops are really interested in making everyone safer then why has the NYPD essentially stopped doing their jobs? Why have they reduced felony arrests by 54 percent because a mayor said something that hurt their feelings? See, good people look through that sort of non-sense and carry on because doing the right thing is the most important thing they can do. But not police officers, it's all about the brotherhood and turning their backs on their superiors in public to extort the elected officials into giving them more.

3) Police work isn't THAT dangerous. You know what's more dangerous? Being a garbage man, being a farmer, being an electrical worker, be a tree cutter, being a fisherman. These are the real heroes who by the way don't stop doing their jobs because someone insults them, they don't shit on society because they feel a sense of self importance.

4) The real heroes, farmers, electrical workers, garbage men, etc. etc. aren't above the law and don't think they should be. If they get drunk and and beat someone on the street they go to prison, they don't have a union negotiating time off with pay, they go to jail and typically admit they deserve it.

5) Our police have been elevated to a lawless criminally privileged class of citizens. Their behavior is more like criminal gangs than law enforcement. They protect their own, they see nothing wrong with breaking the law, they pressure and extort those who stand in their way.

It's time for the federal government to step in and outlaw police unions. Police unions are the most politically influential entities in America and it's to the detriment of all Americans. The police unions are preventing the police from serving the public interest. Why would we allow police unions when we don't allow air traffic controllers to unionize?
