Government will 'absolutely' ensure GST is paid on internet shopping pur

So how do they plan to implement this? Currently, the reason that they don't collect GST on goods under $400 is because the costs of processing it are more than what they would actually get from the GST. So policing it at the border seems like a huge money-sink just to cater to a bunch of price-gouging, dinosaur retailers who are clinging desperately to the past where they could get away with selling limited stock for exorbitant prices.

If they're planning to put the burden on the retailer, well, good luck with that. I'm sure plenty of sellers on places like Ali Express will totally be happy to comply.

Regardless, I'll still get stuff from overseas, because it isn't just an issue of price, but selection. New Zealand retailers are so behind the times in terms of what they offer. I buy from overseas because I can't find it locally, and that's totally on the retailers and has nothing to do with GST. But retailers fail to acknowledge this. Zero sympathy.

Also, "no new taxes" my arse. Although I suppose you could argue GST isn't a "new" tax. This still seems like the start of it, though.
