Is growing a blog as simple as just making posts or is there more to it than that?

It just depends of what you want to achieve, you basically have 3 options

  1. Getting all your traffic from social media. This is probably the fastest method, but also the most time consuming, sadly the most profitable social media to get followers (facebook and pinterest) requires you to create a new page, in case of facebook; or a new business account, in case of pinterest. The good thing is, once you have a lot of followers, sharing your next websites in these places will make google take your website in consideration much faster (you can hear a lot of seo experts paying facebook ads just to make google make his website start faster)
  2. Getting all your traffic from search engines. I honestly prefer this one, since it makes you get completely passive money. In social medias if you don't post for a week, you will see your revenue significantly affected. But if you get all from google, once you complete your website it will be generating money for a lot of time. The bad part is that it requieres a lot of polish and knowledge about user experience and it usually takes like 2 months to start getting entries. If you want to get views with google, you website NEEDS to be really intuitive and, above all, comfortable for user. It takes some time, but it's 100% worth it
  3. Not getting large amounts of traffic. I mean, it's completely respectable having a blog for your family and friends and use it as a diary
