My reasoning is a little different than most, but you need to act on that, asap.

I fell for a friend, hard, but I didn't say anything for years because we were best friends and i didn't want to risk it. We had a few near misses over the years, but it just never came to fruition. Not making a solid move was absolutely crippling to my dating life, and got to the point that I was straight up losing sleep. Earlier this year it all came to a head in a drunken fling, and I realized in the act that we are at such different points in our lives than when that crush had started and that there's no way we could go down that road now. If we did it would force both of us to compromise in areas that we just shouldn't have to. It was kind of like a wave of rationality hit me when it was no longer a secret little crush. We'd have made great highschool sweethearts, but we have actual lives and plans now.

If you feel something now, act on it now. Things change and most relationships aren't soulmate situations, there's probably a clock counting down on those feelings whether you know it or not.
