Do you guys ever feel overwhelmed with the amount of music out there?

Not anymore. When I was younger I would go into listening to albums by treating it like a task. However, over the years, I've taught myself to treat each listen as a fun experience without paying much attention to what I haven't listened to and what I want/need to get around to. I'll listen to it when I can. And if I never get the time to, then that's fine.

I know how you feel. I used to read P4K heavily and try to listen to anything they gave over a 7.5 rating. It was much more of a task in order to feel complete and well listened (even though it never got me anywhere). I would try to make sure I had a copy (physical, digital etc.) of the album because other people said it was good. It came to the point where I was not actually listening to most of the music I had collected because it was more of a task because there were so many albums to discover, so I just stuck with the ones I knew already. I was sick of that cycle. I began to realize that the whole experience felt like another thing I had check of my list for the week, day, month. This routine, at least in my opinion, is a terrible way to "enjoy" music.

Think about it like films and books. There are so many critically acclaimed books and movies that have come out but most people aren't overwhelmed because it's not a task but rather a thing you do to entertain yourself in your free time. If you've never read War and Peace, then you'll get around to it sometime. If you haven't seen that Birdman film, maybe you'll watch it on the weekend.

In conclusion, if you are feeling overwhelmed by all the music that has been released then, in my opinion, you need to change the way you think about music as an art form.
