Don't take this as me being in agreement with him this whole time, but the idea would be that fascism sucks so if we just debate on an even field, fascism can't win. Bringing it back to PCM, some people in there will never change their minds, but idealistically the thought would be nice to have it one day be the case that leftist content and ideals prevail over there, on paper that seems like a victory, on its face it is a victory but you don't win anything, no culture war gets won - all the fascists slink away and when they next group up they add PCM to the dogshit teir list and make fun of how it changed, just like they do now with r/politics. So, I like the ideal but I prefer the idea of not tolerating intolerance, imo best would be if we could take the truth to their gate, as in start figuring out ways of definitively arguing how they're proto-fascistic, then if that transformed the content of the sub, you could potentially raise the overall consciousness a bit.
