Halifax urges residents to stay home for next 24 to 36 hours - Nova Scotia

From the comments section on CBC:

24 to 36 hours ?? Really ?? I'm a disabled person, relegated to a mobility device for getting around.. The first storm we had left a ton of snow and it took 5 or 6 days before you could actually traverse the sidewalks; that is, if you could get on them at all.. Every approach to sidewalks are blocked, so if you use a walker, a scooter or a wheelchair, you cannot use the sidewalks.. I NEED to get out for supplies, meds and appointments, and my needs are as important as anyone with a car, yet people in cars are the road crews' first priority while people like me are their lowest priority.. So people, when you see people in the roadway with scooter chairs or wheelchairs, don't give them dirty looks or make nasty comments. Show some compassion and stop being a privileged ***.. As for the city, you people need to create a crew that goes around the downtown areas and keep sidewalk approaches cleared after the plows cover them in while catering to the drivers..

It really is as bad as he claims, and worse. Only half of the sidewalk on my street had been cleared. Of course, its around the bend, so I see they just decided to arbitrarily stop clearing, and had to walk back around the bend and start on the street.

My buildings management is just as bad. The front entrance to our building was only finally cleared 3 days ago after a bunch of the tenants contacted the city to make complaints. In that time, we also did not receive any mail because Canada Post could not get to the entrance that their key will open (They have a key for the buzzer system, not the door itself). And because it happened late Friday, we wont see any mail until tomorrow. Unless the front entrance has changed since then.

I'm not sure whats going on with the cities snow removal services. My step-dad usually clears snow in the winter, but this year theres no work for him. First snow storm? No work. Second? No work. Yesterday? No work.
